6 Reasons No One is Signing up For Your Email List (and How to Fix Them!)
So you signed up for your email provider, created your top-notch email incentive and put it out there for the whole world to see but no one is signing up for your email list. Now you’re getting frustrated and about ready to give up! Well here are 6 reasons why no one is signing up for your email list and how to fix them.
No One is Signing up For Your Email List
(and how to fix them!)
1) Not knowing your Niche
This is such a huge debate in the blogging world but you really need to know your niche. If you have too many different unrelated topics and categories it confuses people when they land on your Homepage.
And when this happens, guess what?
They’re not going to stick around. They are going to leave immediately and go find the information elsewhere.
Now I’m not saying that you cannot have different categories on your blog but it is best if they fit together in some way.
Also, your niche needs to be something you’re passionate about and something that will attract readers to your blog. To test your ideas, search Facebook Groups and Forums in your niche to see what types of questions group members are asking. While you’re there, answering questions for people will help to establish you as an expert in this field.
2) Not knowing your Target Audience (AKA: Dream Client)
Not knowing your target audience goes hand in hand with not knowing your niche.
A statement that I read somewhere when I first started blogging was “if you’re writing for everyone, you will end up attracting no one.” This is such a true statement and it has always stuck with me.
Figuring out your target audience (your dream client) is essential for getting people to sign up for your email list. Check out this post that gives you tips on how to find your dream client.
3) You have no opt-in incentive (freebie)
So people love free! Also, people aren’t just going to give you their email address for nothing in return. They might but the chances are so small that you really need to have a kickass opt-in incentive that makes people excited to give you their email address.
Maybe you have no idea what to create. This is when you look to the questions you’re getting from your readers, pay attention to what your dream clients are saying in Facebook Groups and Forums.
Send an email to your current email list, if you have one, and ask them what they’re struggling with and what they are finding challenging.
All of this information you are reading and hearing from people is a gold mine!! This is your key to an opt-in incentive that will get people signing up!
4) People landing on your Homepage have to search for your opt-in form
Your opt-in form for your email list should be visible as soon as a reader lands on your Homepage. No one should have to search for it. Let me rephrase that, chances are no one will search for it, they’ll give up and leave.
The best place to have it is front and center, above the fold when people land on your homepage but you should also add it to relevant blog posts as well.
Even better yet, create a dedicated landing page for your freebie. Landing pages convert really well when written with excellent copy.
5) You are not promoting your opt-in incentive enough
If your way of thinking is “if you build it, they will come” mentality then you’re not going to be successful. You must promote your content continuously so you are always gaining new subscribers.
Promote your content on your website, your emails and all of your social media platforms.
If the first way you tried to promote doesn’t gain any subscribers then try another way. Keep testing various things, photos, wording so you attract people to whatever it is that you’re promoting.
6) Your website is… well, a mess!
A professional looking website is a must! If your website is a mess no one is going to want any offer you have. Seriously, think about it. Why would someone want to give you their email address for a freebie when your website looks horrible? I highly doubt it.
There are so many great themes out there that are easy to navigate through so you can have a professional looking website without paying tons of money. It’s well worth it!
Now is the time to get started with making some much-needed changes so you start to see your email list grow!
3. Posting at optimized times
The final tip to getting more visible on Instagram is to schedule your posts at optimized times. It’s easier than you might believe!
Simply head over to your Instagram app on your phone. From your profile, click on the Insights button. Within those insights you can find helpful information such as account growth and impressions, follower demographics, and when those people are most often logged in and active on Instagram. Schedule your posts for those peak hours.
Do you know how hashtag search results show “top posts” and “most recent?” If your audience is logging on around 6pm and you’ve just published a post, guess who’s showing up in the most recent posts? Bingo.
Remember to be flexible and willing to adjust your strategies. If something isn’t working, adjust your strategies and give it another go.
